Description:
Despite the increased vulnerability of unhoused individuals to severe weather resulting from climate change, this group is rarely included in discussions on building climate resilience. Through qualitative interviews and thematic analysis, explore the health impacts of climate change on unhoused individuals, existing protective factors, and areas for improvement. MiCCA’s guest presenters aim to use storytelling to highlight the self-identified needs of the unhoused community in the face of worsening climate events and build inclusive
Speakers:
Sanjana Kannikeswaran: Sanjana is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Michigan pursuing internal medicine. Her interest in environmental health began in college when she founded an organization dedicated to addressing health disparities in rural India, through which she worked on a sanitation & environmental health project. She is interested in the intersection of climate change and health and how it affects the environment and communities in Michigan, where she was born and raised.
