About the event

Health professionals and advocates, joined by Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, will speak to the need of protecting federal standards on fine particulate matter (PM2.5, also known as soot standards) and take questions from reporters.


Setting Feb. 6 as a deadline, the Trump EPA has asked a federal court to vacate the stronger 2024 National Ambient Air Quality Standards on PM2.5. By the EPA's own estimates, the standards would in 2032 result in significant public health net benefits that could be as high as $46 billion, 4,500 avoided premature deaths, 800,000 avoided cases of asthma symptoms, and 290,000 avoided lost workdays.
