A Day of Delicious Food, Inspiring Speakers, Student Research Posters & Meaningful Conversations
Thank you to everyone who joined MiCCA for our Food as Medicine for People and the Planet event! We know it’s a busy time of year, and we appreciate you taking the time out of a beautiful fall Saturday to join us.
Please help us make this event better by sharing your feedback here. If you weren’t able to make it, we’d still like to hear from you!
This event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors, our registrants, and our amazing food and agriculture working group: Jamie DuVerneay, MPH, CTRS; Karen Koeppe, MS, RDN, CDCES; Mia McPherson, BSN, RN; Cheryl Ruble, MD; and Sue Holcombe, VMD, MS, PhD, DACVS, DACVECC.
This group of MiCCA members inspired this year’s theme, suggested speakers, and put together the afternoon curriculum of interactive case studies, tying the big-picture overview of our food systems from the morning into grounded clinical guidance and a call-to-action to sign onto a letter to Sen. Slotkin’s office. If you’d like to join their ranks and aren’t already a member with our organization, you can register as a MiCCA member here.
Big shoutout to our wonderful speaker lineup:
Dr. M. Jahi Johnson-Chappell, Director of the MSU Center for Regional Food Systems
Dr. Jennifer Blesh, Agroecologist, MSU resident faculty member
Shane Bernardo, Food Justice Organizer, Food As Healing
Chelsea Skonieczny, Food Program Cordinator, The Farm Trinity Health Oakland
Kelly Wilson, RDN, DipACLM, Lifestyle & Culinary Program Coordinator, Trinity Health Ann Arbor
We were also incredibly grateful to Chef Sam Anglin, who provided us with a nourishing lunch and shared some words of wisdom with our attendees.
Lastly, thank you to the students who presented their research! We would like to highlight Braysila Ford from the Wayne State School of Medicine for winning the People’s Choice Student Poster Award with their project, The Impact of Food Insecurity on Childhood Obesity.
CME/CE credits: We’re now outside the window for attendees to mark their attendance, but don’t forget to follow the rest of the instructions to claim the credits. You’ll need to sign into the WMed CE Portal and navigate to My CE, then Evaluations and Certificates, where you can complete the form to receive credit.
We look forward to seeing you at next year’s event, and we hope you take a couple minutes to share your feedback (even if you didn’t make it) on how we can improve future events!
Please consider supporting MiCCA and our future programming with a donation.
